You can’t directly convert RAM (Pro Action Replay) codes/patches to Game Genie (ROM) codes. You’d literally have to hack brand new Game Genie codes for the game from scratch. It’s pretty difficult to do if you’ve never done it before, especially if you don’t know assembly.

But, there’s a chance *some* PAR codes might be for ROM, so this tutorial might help.

A Game Genie can only patch ROM, a Pro Action Replay can patch both RAM and ROM.

NOTE: Kega will “decrypt” Game Genie and Pro Action Codes. If they start with FF, they’re RAM Pro Action Replay codes, and they can’t be converted to Game Genie. Decrypted codes that start with 00 are ROM codes (decrypted Game Genie) and can be converted back to Game Genie.

The fix is likely to use an older build. Sadly, there hasn’t been an update for Kega in over 7 years now. Hopefully that changes someday and Snakey can work on stuff again! 🙂

I’d be *highly* surprised if the Kega source code was ever released. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

If you’re looking into an open source alternative that nearly supports everything Kega does (except 32X), look at Genesis Plus GX.

Not sure on Mac, but is there a menu under File called Boot SegaCD? If so, that’s the option.

In that case, good luck getting a working native version anytime soon, sadly. 🙁

As an alternative, users could try running Genesis Plus GX (which has surpassed Kega in terms of accuracy and is actively developed – but lacks 32X support) through RetroArch or BizHawk (which uses an outdated fork of GPGX). Never really tested this, as I don’t need to as long as I have Kega working perfectly through Wine.

    Nope, not possible.

IMO, it’s easier to install PlayOnMac and setup Kega through Wine (I personally use the Wine-Staging builds with all Staging options enabled) and Kega works fine that way. I do the same thing on Linux too!

No, it doesn’t work and because it won’t work on real hardware either… unless you have a specific version and a Mega Everdrive flash cart.

Kega hasn’t been updated in 6 years now, so this isn’t surprising.

I just tried it (I’m on Windows 10 too) and the game loads right up and into the first level just fine – I did have Perfect Sync enabled though.

Yeah, same here. It’s been years since I’ve last spoken with him. Hope he’s doing alright though.

Sadly I don’t have any of my messenger/email addresses anymore.

Have you tried enabling the Perfect Sync feature?

MD.Emu isn’t based on Kega though, it’s based on Genesis Plus GX (an outdated version, actually).
